The Transferrable Skills of a Courtesan
As I embark on this new business venture (no telling yet) I’ve been thinking about all the experience I’ve gained over the years as an independent escort and then courtesan. I’ve always been a people person and active conversationalist so this is a skill I brought to working as a companion rather than one I gained from it but it’s certainly developed over the years.
As you can see from my recent announcement I’m expanding my business. Being self employed all these years I’ve always been the master and commander of my own life and of course my business. I feel like I’ve been rather successful on both those points.
Perhaps it’s my private education I have to thank for my business head but I’d like to think my work experience has contributed too. Here are a few things I think every courtesan could identify as a transferable skill:
- Communication. Not only am I a great talker but I understand people well too. It’s thought that 93% of the way humans communicate is through body language and other non verbal signs. Anyone working as a companion or entertainer will know that you have to gauge the mood of your client by assessing their actions and body language more than just what they say to you. In any industry sometimes the client doesn’t really know what they want or may not know how to express themselves. A good companion will know how to please a partner without verbal cues.
- Quick and independent decision making. Whether you work for yourself or within an escort agency as an escort if a problem arises you have to think quickly. You’re on your own for most part, there’s no line manager to defer to so you have to be confident in your decision making capabilities.
- Great organisational skills. I keep my appointment diary, am always on time and prepared and know exactly how to ensure the administrative details are dealt with as quickly and painlessly as possible. I make travel arrangements for myself and will soon be rolling out a full transfer service for clients. I’m secretary, boss and courtesan all at the same time.
- Discretion. In this business I understand the need for discretion. It’s something every worker could learn from though. Most businesses offer their clients discretion. If you’re privy to sensitive financial information it’s your responsibility to treat that delicately. Discretion is also an important trait in a workmate. Knowing when not to blab your co-workers secrets all the office can be an exercise in restraint.
- Marketing. As my own boss I’m also in charge of my own promotion. How I promote myself should fit with my brand. Deciding how to brand myself will win and lose me work either attracting the wrong clients or the right ones; it’s a delicate balance. I’m well versed in the right and wrong marketing paths for me as well as keeping an eye on the latest marketing trends for new ideas.
